A Study Case Presented in Wen Wang Gua Seminar

In spring, 2002, I gave Professional Yijing Divination seminar for the first time in Paris. In the application part, I presented an example of using Wen Wang Gua to forecast bullion prices for the year 2002. The divination was done on Jan 1, 2002. The following analysis is in the handout of the seminar.

[1] Gold price is represented by the Subject Yao Chen. The market movement is represented by the Object Yao Mao.

[2] Mao wood controls Chen earth indicating that the market movement controls the prices so that there will not be huge net gains or losses.

[3] Zi month supports Mao and forms a semi-water frame with Chen. This indicates that gold prices will support the movement. In other words, gold prices will not stay in the doldrums. The gold market will be active again with momentum.

[4] The twelve months have stems and branches given below:

Jan Xin Chou                      Feb Ren Yin                 Mar Gui Mao

Apr Jia Chen                      May Yi Si                     Jun Bing Wu

Jul Ding Wei                       Aug Wu Shen               Sep Ji You

Oct Geng Xu                      Nov Xin Hai                 Dec Ren Zi

Jan: Xin controls Mao and drains Chen. Prices are weakening in general.

Feb, Mar, Apr, May: On the rise after dramatic uplift in Feb.

Jun: month break indicating big changes. Since Bing generates Chen, there will be substantial gains.

      Jul: Gains sustain.

Aug, Sep: Shen and You drain Chen earth. Prices are weakening.

Oct, Nov: Void indicating occasional up trend are short lived and unreal.

     Dec: Gold prices rise again.

The chart below shows the actual price movement of gold in 2002.

Comment: [2] The object controls the subject indicates that the price is under the influence of the sentiment of the traders rather than supply and demand. The opinion that there will not be huge net gains or losses is not correct. Whether the gain or loss is substantial depends on the market sentiment. If the sentiment is sluggish, the market will be flat. If the sentiment is bullish, there will be substantial gains while if the sentiment is bearish, there will be substantial loss.

[3] The opinion is quite correct. The bullion market is back to life after years of lackluster inactivity. Since the market sentiment is bullish, the gain is substantial.

In Jan, the market did decline.

There was a spectacular uplift in Feb followed by consolidation and sustained gain in Mar, Apr and May.

Jun saw an up turn in the beginning but it failed to break through. The market turned back in Jul but resume its uptrend in late Jul.

Aug and Sep was further consolidation.

The market rose again in Dec.

The forecast is pretty accurate except for the months of Jun and Jul. It shows the power of Yi Jing divination. An in-depth study of the gua is needed to give accurate predictions.

Once the overall picture is obtained, at the beginning of each month or even each week, we can do a divination to get more details.

The next Yi Jing Divination seminar will be at Feng Shui Research Center.
